This is a Cross-sectional study on the development of basic emotions of gifted children and adolescents. The subjects were drawn from four elementary schools and three secondary schools in Taipei area. They were 141 gifted children and 163 children of ordinary intelligence in fourth grade, 293 gifted children and 327 children of ordinary intelligence in sixth grade and 131 gifted adolescents and 142 adolescents of ordinary intelligence in eighth grade, 893 subjects in total. The results indicated that there were no difference between gifted and ordinary subjects on their scores of emotional stability, as well as their responses on the situations to elicit happy, fear worry. However, there were some differences on their responses to the situations of anger and sadness. The way of handling different emotions between gifted and ordinary subjects were extreemly the same.
