The purpose of this study was to investigate the present situation, accomplishment, and difficulty of the guidance service being carried out at the junior high school level in this country. With the results of this study, it is hoped that the guidance service can be offered to the educational administration for reference. Three kinds of questionnaires were used in this survey. The subjects of the survey were school administratives, teachers, and students. This survey included all 563 junior high schools in Taiwan province and the city of Taipei, and 30 of them were randomly chosen as a sample for further investigation. The results of this survey indicated that under the increasing and persistent reinforcement from the supervisor, more attention has been paid to the guidance service and there is a tendency of greater progress. But at the present time due to the lack of well trained and qualified school counselors and the school administrations are not fully prepared with this kind of work, most of the guidance service has not been through promoted and the effects are not notable. In general, the educational guidance of every school has been emphasized on academic guidance for higher education, and the emphasis of life guidance has been placed on eliminating problem behaviors of the students. Only a small numberof schools have assisted their students in self-understanding, self-direction, and self-realization. Half of the schools have been successful in providing career education and vocational guidance with additional vocational placement advices given by other organization. In summarizing the results of the present survey, it is suggested that a better educational supervising system be established, to upgrade the professional standard of the executive secretary and the school counselor, that a Committee of Planning and Implementing of Guidance Service be established to arrange conference and workshop for schoolcounselors. Thus the guidance service at the junior high school can be greatly improved
